Client Portal: Showing Progress Without Sending Extra Updates

“What’s the status?” — one of the most common questions project managers get.

When a client has no visibility into how a project is progressing, all that’s left for them to do is ask — by email, phone, or meeting. Every such question takes time away from someone who could be working on the project itself instead of writing a reply that essentially repeats what’s already known internally.

What changes when the client sees progress themselves

  1. The client sees overall progress and upcoming deadlines without having to ask
  2. Repeated “is it done yet?” messages drop off
  3. Trust grows, because the client feels informed rather than forced to request information

Interestingly, most clients don’t care about the details — knowing that things are moving forward is usually enough. That means even a simple progress indicator, with no extra commentary, often already answers the question they would have asked.
