Implementation and adoption are two different things. A system can be technically rolled out, but if the team keeps entering data into a spreadsheet “in parallel,” the investment doesn’t pay off.
What actually drives adoption
- The system needs to be faster, not slower, than the old way — if entering a contact takes longer than before, people will go back to the old habit
- The manager visibly uses the system themselves, not just demands that others do
- Early wins (even small ones) in the first week get acknowledged publicly, reinforcing the new habit
Adoption fails more often not because of a system’s shortcomings, but because nobody explained why the new way is actually better than the old one.
